My name is Nithikan Nithinoraset from Thailand. I spent around 8 wonderful years with Aunty, starting from 2011 to 2019. When I first arrived in Singapore, I found myself in an unfavorable hostile environment. Sleeping with 15 other occupants in the same room, sharing just two bathrooms, and being constantly bothered by younger children every night made it a challenging situation. Moreover, the house was far from the MRT station. This led to numerous sleepless nights. It was clear I needed to find a new place.

That was when I discovered Aunty’s place, and what a blessing it was! The location was perfect, with supermarkets, sports hubs, parks, and plenty of eateries nearby. Being close to the MRT and bus stop meant I could easily reach my college with just one bus route. I found solace in the neighborhood’s safety, without any fear of danger. In my shared bedroom with another male student, there was ample space for personal belongings, and I even had my own desk, a stark contrast to the crowded conditions I endured before. Laundry and cleaning were efficiently managed. The meals were good and sufficient. No one ever went hungry.

The house exuded a lively and cozy atmosphere, thanks to Uncle’s impeccable taste in landscaping and design. The abundance of greenery and artificial ponds with cascading waterfalls made it feel like a perpetual vacation or a serene resort. The calming sound of water helped me sleep peacefully and provided a pleasant ambiance while I worked at my desk. The house offered plenty of seating areas for self-study, tutoring sessions, and relaxation. My favorite spot was beside the pond, where I could gaze at the fish and trees while doing my homework. I couldn’t find anything to complain about – this place was truly a significant improvement from my previous living situation and undoubtedly the best place to stay.

Beyond the exceptional living conditions, the hospitality of Uncle and Aunty was beyond comparison. They treated me like a cherished family member, helping me navigate through difficult times, assisting with work, and even guiding me through the complexities of handling official documents with the government. Boredom was a foreign concept here, as they frequently took us out for meals, visits to churches, malls, markets, and various tourist attractions in Singapore. And if anyone was interested in golfing or fishing, Uncle guaranteed not to disappoint us.

Reflecting on my overall experience with them, I can genuinely say this place became my second home; everyone within felt like family. Whenever I return to Singapore, I eagerly seize the chance to check up on them, for the warmth and fondness shared within those walls remain unparalleled.

I am Annie Li; I am from China. I have stayed with Uncle and Aunty from August 2015 to June 2018 The level of care I received was highly individualized and fostered a deep sense of involvement within the family as we partake in church activities, watch movies, go on shopping trips, and share meals together. Aunty assumed the role of a traditional Chinese mother, which was well-received by my Chinese parents. During my 3 years of staying with her, she imparted valuable lessons during our shared time together.

I am Steven Chung from Hong Kong. I stayed with Uncle and Aunty for 7 years (2003 to 2010). Aunty and Uncle are the best guardians I could ever dream for. They took good care of me, prayed for me when I was sick, accompanied me after my loss of my first love, spent time with me for my studies. During my first 2 years in Secondary school life, my result was so poor, failed almost every subject except Mathematics and Chinese. With their help, my overall result improved from bottom few of the class to top 15 of the class and top 60 of the entire Secondary 2. I was able to stream to the second best class in Secondary 3.

However, despite such improvement, English was still a very tough subject to me as it was not my first spoken language, I failed again during the whole Secondary 3 and 4. Furthermore, I found Additional Mathematics (A Maths) and Chemistry too hard; these were like a “rocket science to me”. One month prior to my O level exam, I was so scared and worried. Aunty said, “Steven, there is nothing to worry, just do your very best and feel no regrets.”

She hired 3 private tutors to coach my English, Science and both A & Elementary Mathematics (E Maths). I studied day and night. I remembered one of the nights when Uncle returned from his work and saw me so focused on my revision and said to me “Steven, very hardworking. Good, after O level you can play all the computer games you want. 加油”(加油 is keep fighting and work hard in Chinese). I returned him with an embarrassing smile. Finally, my O level was over and I had a pass in my English, high pass for my Science, high B for my A maths and low A for E maths. My score qualified me for admission to Junior College (JC). Imagine a dumb boy who was poor in his studies qualifying for JC. I called Aunty immediately to share with her my results. She was screaming so loudly that I had never heard such loud laughter from her before.

Besides my studies, they also taught me fundamental views or values of an adult male. There was once I was arrested by the Police for Unlawful Assembly, I was trying to protect my friends from getting harmed by some thugs. After released, I thought a bad scolding was coming. However, the first thing Aunty concerned was “are you hurt my dear”. We seated down and I told them every detail of the incident. They praised my courage for protecting others, but also taught me the right way was to seek help from adults and authorities. She also spent her time explaining my situation to the school and Police. I was lucky to leave with just a written warning.

Apart from these, they also encouraged their students to play sports. Often, they took everyone to play bowling and bought a table tennis table for us to enjoy at the garden. There was a dog, Leto; I often played ball with him and it was such an unforgettable time.

They also supported me for my co-curricular activities. I was an active Scout during my 4 years of secondary school life. As a Scout, we often had a lot of physical training, and they always prepared a clean and nicely ironed set of uniform for me. In 2005, I was selected to march for National Day Parade (NDP). It was a rare opportunity; only less than 100 scouts were selected within Singapore. Back then, my studies results were not doing very good. Some of my peers had the same issue and eventually chose to drop out from the unit as weekly training was required to match the national marching standard. However, Aunty and Uncle did not stop me for my service to the nation. She said she saw me on the TV during NDP. In the same year, I was promoted to be the Chairman of the Scout Unit and received Best Service Award from my school and earned First Class Scout, a second highest Scout awards achievable for Secondary School Scout.

I visited them in October 2022. The first thing they did was a big firm hug. It was sweet and heartwarming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aunty and Uncle for all the help and support they gave to me during my stay. My life would be completely different without their endless effort. Thank you for all the coaching, tolerated an angry boy like me, stand by my side during the hard time. I wish the very best for your family and good health. Till we meet again. Keep in touch.
